Application and Admission
All applicants must hold a minimum of four-year bachelor's degree for admission into any graduate degree program, with the exception of five-year degree programs, which allow admission concurrently with completion of the BS.
For admission consideration, prospective students need to complete the following applications and provide all the supporting documentation. Students must pay the graduate application fee but department may consider reimbursing it for students who join the department. We offer admission in the fall as well as spring. Majority of the admissions are offered for spring semester.

Complete the Chemistry Department Graduate Application
Complete the Graduate college full application online using GradCAS with the exception of sending official IELTS and official foreign transcripts to the Center of Graduate Studies, directly. Online help is provided in the system. The GradCAS code for ETS GRE is 2580. The GradCAS code for TOEFL is B886.
Three letters of recommendation from those who are familiar with applicant’s research capabilities, academic preparation, and work ethic.
The GRE general test is required. Cut off score can vary based on the applicant pool. The GradCAS code for ETS GRE is 2580. Following GRE scores may be used as a guideline to see if the applicant meets th admission standard. This is not a hard bottom-line.

Analytical writing 3 (15%).
International students whose first language is not English must provide proof of English proficiency via TOEFL or IELTS. A TOEFL score 80 or above is required to consider for a graduate teaching assistantship. A minimum TOEFL score of 76 is required for the consideration of admission without a teaching assistantship. IELTS score of 6.5 is required if TOEFL scores are not available. The GradCAS code for TOEFL is B886.
Applicant should submit an essay that addresses their research interests, current research experiences, why interested in pursuing a PhD in chemistry, at NMT, and future career goal. This essay should be more than 1000 words but no more than 2000 words.
Transcripts must be either sent directly from the issuing institution to the NMT graduate office or they must be in sealed envelope.
